The show tells the story of the singer-dancer-actor George M. Cohan's life in show business with his show-business family, and takes place from the late 1880's to 1937. The story takes George from working with his parents (Jerry and Nellie) and sister (Josie) in vaudeville as The Four Cohans to his Broadway endeavors. The show progresses through his life as a producer, his show failures and succeses. George leaves broadway for a while but returns once more to prove he can still do it. He exits the theatre, not through the back, but through the front, because after all, "that's where Broadway is."
